Thoughts are Things.

Thoughts are Things

What is your thinking pattern? Have you ever given consideration to not what you think, but how you go about it? Nobody can think for you because thoughts are things that occur to you and me, sometimes taking us by surprise: certainly they do for me. So how can we put their meanings to effective use or dismiss them if of no value?

Deepak Chopra estimated that we have some 60,000 thoughts a day. I was staggered to read that many years ago, yet he was a wise man and I reflected on my own drifting in and out as time passed. Some thoughts are of no use and yet others are reminders of things to do and places to go.

Thoughts are Things

By listening to what’s going on in your own mind, you could better direct your attention to what is worth pursuing, or on the other hand, dismissing what is not worth dwelling on. Being a wise counsellor to yourself could be your pathway to more effectively living your life on your purpose.

Have you ever found yourself going around in circles? I have, and must confess to addressing my thought patterns and making a determined effort to think positively so that I get onto my chosen path. It works well and has served me in times of unwanted panic or stress. Also, it’s a way of knowing and choosing your own road, rather than following the dictates of other people. Adopting a method is best served, I believe, by self-questioning and asking if you have made the right choice. Self-talk is not as crazy as some people would have us accept. This self-questioning can impact on all our pursuits. Health is number one for me because I know I can’t give what I haven’t got and I enjoy being active.

Other areas that apply to most of us include earning more than we spend, a settled mind, positive association with family and friends and living life according to choice and not HAVING to do. Also on the negative side there could be ill health and negative thinking affecting daily activities and impinging on our preferred onwards and upwards desire.

I recall an old saying regarding the brain and its function – ‘use it or lose it!’  ‘As a man thinketh, so is he,’ is another quote that springs to mind.

Thinking then is vitally important for each and every one of us. It’s inescapable as I mentioned with due respect to the findings of Deepak Chopra, and I’m advocating that each and every one of us be aware of the patterns we weave on a daily basis. The power of thought is not to be overlooked, so I’m suggesting that you make yours positive.

In my upbringing, I recall my mum and dad giving me words to recite before I dropped off to sleep. These were prayers, and my brothers and I would recite them every night: we slept soundly! I don’t know what your belief pattern might be, but what I do firmly believe is the power of our individual thoughts.

Would love to hear yours!

Kind regards, John.
